The name Solen scalprum Gould, 1850 is in current use for a widely distributed species of bivalve assigned to the genus Cultellus. The name is a junior primary homonym of Solen scalprum King, 1832. The name Solen scalprum Gould, 1850 should be replaced by its junior synonym Cultellus subellipticus Dunker, 1862.

The widespread calyptraeid Crepidula walshi Reeve, 1859, is currently assigned by most authors to the genus Syphopatella Lesson, 1831 (also incorrectly spelt as âSiphopatellaâ). An analysis of the type species of Syphopatella Lesson, 1831, shows that this species should be assigned to the genus Ergaea H. Adams & A. Adams, 1854, instead. The original description, authorship, spelling, and two synonyms of Crepidula walshi Reeve, 1859, are also discussed.

A naturally formed spherical pearl was recently discovered in a Tegillarca granosa (Linnaeus, 1758), which was purchased from a market in Singapore , and herein reported. This is probably the first published report of a spherical pearl from Tegillarca granosa . The cause of pearl formation remains unknown.

Three species of intertidal bivalves belonging to the family Mesodesmatidae (commonly known as âwedge clamsâ) have had confirmed records (Morris & Purchon, 1982; Tan & Woo, 2010) from Singapore and is diagnosable on the grounds of shell morphology.
